Mastering Junior Astronomers new album “Dead Nostalgia”

Junior Astronomers are releasing a new album on July 23rd.  It’s called “Dead Nostalgia”.  I mastered the album months ago and have been eagerly and impatiently waiting the album’s release.  The band recorded and mixed (and even wrote a few songs off the album ) with the GREAT Kris Hilbert at Legitimate Business in Greensboro, North Carolina.  I was excited when my name got called to master the album because even though I work up here in New York City, I’m originally from North Carolina, so it felt good to be putting the finishing touches on a North Carolina record!  And even though I’m not super happy with my home states policies and legislations at the moment, I am proud to be from North Carolina, and I’m proud that everyone involved in the creation of “Dead Nostalgia” had home ties to the state.

I received excellent mixes from Kris Hilbert.  They were all sonically very-interesting, and the mixes were super clear and tight.  He captured the band’s sound and vibe, but with a clean studio sound (without cleaning them up too much.)  It’s still got that very raw rock’n’roll vibe, but produced and presented appropriately by Kris.   When I was going through the songs in the album, I found all of these really epic parts of each song, so I really focused on building the songs and presenting them in a way that would give the listener goosebumps.  Press play on “Dead Nostalgia” and go on a roller coaster ride dynamically, which is NOT common of rock albums these days (or many contemporary albums being released these days.)  It was recorded and mixed properly, and we didn’t crush it on our end.  It’s loud where it’s supposed to be loud.  It’s quiet where it’s supposed to be quiet.

I flew home this past week and was able to attend Junior Astronomers’ CD Release show in Charlotte, NC at The Neighborhood Theater on July 13th.  The band ripped through the album in it’s entirety from start to finish!  We downed shots of bourbon and the band jumped back on stage and tore through some old favorites.  It was great to see the people of Charlotte showing support their band.  The Neighborhood Theater was packed and sweaty, I couldn’t have pictured it going any better.
